Ed Klawitter, 71, of Chesapeake, VA, was called to heaven by Jesus on May 3rd, 2021. Ed was born on March 25th, 1950 to Edward D. & LaVerne Klawitter. He is survived by his wife Susan Anderson Klawitter to whom he was married for 48 ½ years. He also leaves his sons, E. David (Katie) Klawitter, of Parksley, VA and Major Justin (Brooke) Klawitter, stationed in California. The joy of his life was his grandson, Carter, age two, and a second grandson that was due to arrive to E. David and Katie within the next month. His siblings were dearly loved by him and include Ron (Margot) Klawitter of Colbert, WA, James (Penny) Klawitter of Curtice, Ohio, and Sue Ann Moszkowicz, also of Curtice, Ohio. His extended family, including 2 nephews and 3 nieces, also mourn his passing.
Ed was a 1968 graduate of Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio and majored in Industrial Engineering while playing football on a full scholarship at Toledo University. During his time there, the Rockets won 3 consecutive MAC championships and 3 consecutive bowl games. He later received a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.
Ed retired in 2007 from a 35-year career as an engineer with Ford Motor Company. Upon retirement, he pursued a certificate as a middle school math & science teacher from Old Dominion University. From 2007 until his death, he was a substitute teacher with Chesapeake Public Schools and a math tutor with A+ tutoring.
His favorite activities included exercising, taking friends and family out on his 18-foot SeaRay open-bow boat, water skiing, and going to Old Dominion University basketball and football games. He also loved going to Tidewater Winds concerts, and he and Susan had the opportunity to do a lot of international traveling, to include trips to Israel, Germany, France, Italy and a cruise on the Danube River. His favorite North America trips included visiting Alaska and the Canadian Rockies.
Ed’s faith in Jesus as Lord & Savior was apparent in every aspect of his life. He faithfully and joyfully served in several churches in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Virginia, in positions including: elder, Sunday School teacher, AWANA Sparks leader, and leader of a biweekly Bible study group, which he co-led with his wife. 2nd Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
There will be a memorial service at River Oak Church in Chesapeake, Virginia on Saturday, May 8th. The family will begin receiving guests at 2:00 PM, and the service will start at 3:00 PM. A memorial will also take place at First Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday, May 22nd, at 11:00 AM.
