Obituary for Donald "Don" Randolph Snipes

Donald “Don” Randolph Snipes, 85, of Chesapeake, VA passed away September 2, 2021 at his home.

Don was born in Darlington, SC to James Roy Snipes and Elizabeth Holton Snipes , but lived most of his life in the Tidewater, VA area. He was a graduate of Granby High School and The College of William and Mary. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, an Amateur Radio Operator, served in the US Army, was a lifetime member of the Master Gardner program in both Norfolk and Chesapeake, and a member of the Cape Henry Audubon Society, along with numerous other organizations throughout the years.

Don’s life was full of hobbies and adventures. In his early years, he traveled the globe taking pictures and bird watching. When he wasn’t traveling, he found much enjoyment in gardening and reading. If you knew Don, you knew he had a gift of being able to speak to anyone about anything. He was one of the most personable, down to earth people you ever met and always had a smile on his face. This served him well in his profession as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep with Wyeth Ayerst Laboratories, for which he dedicated his livelihood for 39 years. Don was a life long learner, fueled by his love of reading. He also loved to embarrass his kids, no matter how old they were! We will forever cherish those memories with him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 6 years, Sylvia Snipes, three children- Pauline Hundley (Donald) of Portsmouth, VA, David A. Snipes (Kay) of York, VA, and Donna M. Edge (Kirk) of Cypress, TX. He is also survived by five grandchildren-Kelly Sawyer, Brittany Clifton, Kimberly Glidewell, Dylan Edge, and Allison Edge; and four great-grandchildren-Ethan Lee, Landon Gibson, Ruth Glidewell, and Owen Sawyer.

Don was preceded in death by his parents as well as his first wife, Barbara T. Snipes (1998) to whom he was married for 39 years.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 3-5 pm at Graham Funeral Home located at 1112 Kempsville Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
