Obituary for Delwyn Deford Hutto

Delwyn "Del" DeFord Hutto, 71, passed away on January 27, 2023. Del was predeceased by her father, Leonidas DeFord; mother, Lois DeFord and brother, L.A. DeFord. She was a teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools for 25 years and was co-owner and Vice-President of Hutto Roofing, Inc. and Hutto Enterprises of Virginia. Del graduated from Great Bridge High School, Virginia Wesleyan College, and got her Master's Degree from Old Dominion University. She was a long time member of Good Hope United Methodist Church. Del was a beautiful person. She was a great wife and a great step-mom to Sheila and Davey Hutto, a great sister, and had a special love for her special needs brother, L.A. DeFord. Del also loved butterflies.

Del loved the Beatles, even naming her beloved dog, Pistol Pete, in their honor. He was named for Pete Best, the drummer for The Beatles before Ringo. Husband, David, added Pistol because he liked Pistol Pete, the basketball player. Del met Pete Best on several occasions and got a kiss on the cheek from Pete at one of the Beatles Fest Conventions.

Del is survived by her husband, David Hutto; step-daughter, Sheila Hutto; and step-son, Davey Hutto; best friend for over 65 years, Winfred Culpeper; and a host of other family and friends. The family would also like to acknowledge the help and support provided to them by the Chesapeake Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 6-8 PM. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 11 AM. at Good Hope United Methodist Church, 1633 Benefit Road, Chesapeake with Pastor Richard Castleberry officiating.
