Obituary for David Allen Turpin

David Allen Turpin, 74, passed from this life into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus, on January 27, 2022.

David was born on February 1, 1947 in New Castle, IN. David’s athletic ability was unmistakable early in life and he eventually, at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake, VA, lettered and excelled in football, basketball and baseball. David’s football skills enabled him to play football on the collegiate level.

David’s college career was put on hold when he volunteered to join the Army and fight for his country in Vietnam. After returning from the war he eventually settled back home in Virginia where he worked with the youth of his church and became a coach for a Christian school basketball team. David developed young men who not only enjoyed winning on the court, but who also displayed strong Christian character.

David eventually moved to California to help take care of his ailing father and there met the love of his life, Carol. God gave them many years together and, upon retirement, they moved from San Diego, CA to Ensenada, Mexico.

Anyone who knew David realized he never met a stranger. He had a soft heart, a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good story as well as listen to one. During his retirement years he enjoyed hanging out with his friends, visiting family, fishing and watching sports (especially cheering on his Duke Blue Devils).

David is predeceased by his father, Lloyd Turpin, his mother, Evelyn Thomas and his step-father, B.R. Thomas. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his sister Beverly Cutchins (Jerry); his sister Cheryl Strickland (Gary); his brother Michael Thomas (Lisa) along with his nephews Eric and Justin and his nieces Michelle, Beth, Marisa and Anna.
