David Markham Sanders, 89, of the 1300 block of Butts Station Road, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021. David was a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and friend. He was born in Norfolk County, VA to the late Elisha Sanders and Iris “Thelma” Sanders. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Bertha “Beth” Gower, and nephews, Leonard “Len” Gower, Jr. and Brian Sanders. David worked for the Social Security Department in Philadelphia, PA for over 30 years. He loved to fly his plane, golf and go bowling with his friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Wayne Sanders, nieces and nephews, Meri Beth Griffin and her husband Brent, Melanie Woolard and her husband Ted, Stanley “Stan” Gower and his wife Rochelle, Katie Russell and her husband David “Scooter,” Jesse Sanders and his wife Olivia, and Cole Sanders; great nieces and nephews, Benjamin “Ben” Woolard, Amanda Jones and her husband Eric, Ariel Sawyer and her husband Owen, Asa Griffin, Brittany Taylor and her husband Corey, Hali Sanders, Shelby Gower, Sydney Gower, Emma Pierce, David “Scott” Russell, and Eli Sanders; great-great nieces and nephew, Kennedy Jones, Clara Sawyer, and Macon Taylor; and a host of other family and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate his life on Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at 1301 Butts Station Road, Chesapeake.
