David "Poncho" Lawrence Willis, 80, passed away February 7, 2022. Born in Virginia to the late Ward and Elsie Burgess Willis, Poncho proudly served his country in the United States Army. He went on to become a jack-of-all-trades working as an Auto Body Mechanic for Executive Collision Center. He used the training he acquired in the Army as a cook to become a well respected member of any event that included food, most notably for the Sheriff's Department on many community functions. Poncho was made an honorary Sheriff by Sheriff Johnny Newhart. He was a member and chef for the Isaac Walton League. Poncho was a long-time, active member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as an usher, the Social Team Chairman, and president of the Companions Sunday School Class. He loved to fish and hunt.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Carolyn Willis; daughter, Patricia Mayes (Allen); stepson, Wayne Anderson, Jr. (Terry); stepdaughter, Nicole Owens (James); brother, Thomas Willis (Dora); sister, Rosemary Phelps (Bill); grandchildren, David Lee, Rebecca Thomas, Brian Thomas and James Anderson; great-granchildren, Stacy Thompson, Bonnie, Tyr and Skadi Anderson; special friend, Mellisa; and a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022,at 2 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Pastor Tracy Gregory officiating.
