Obituary for Daniel Lane
Daniel Lane, 99, passed away March 8, 2022, at his home. Dan was born in Sunshine, NC to the late Clarence and Ella Branch Lane. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his ten siblings, Howard, Yates, Foye, Rowell, Duard, Virle, Ruth, David, Clarence, Jr. and Lewis, and his loving wife, Dale Doughtie Lane.
Dan served his country during WWII in the United States Navy; he was a faithful member of Indian River Baptist Church since 1957, ordained as a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. Dan received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University in 1948 and his Master’s degree in 1953 from Peabody College a division of Vanderbilt University. For the next 45 years he taught public schools in North Carolina and Virginia, in various roles, he was a coach, Assistant Principal and Principal. In 1966 Sparrow Road Elementary in Chesapeake opened and Dan was appointed as the first Principal.
Dan is survived by his sons, Scott D. Lane and Mark E. Lane, and his wife, Tammy Pratt Lane; and his grandchildren, Tori, Madison, Mackenzie, Phillip and Matthew.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, March 14, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Peterson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
