Obituary for Cynthia Lee "Cindy" Matthews
Cynthia “Cindy” Lee Matthews (Brown), 70, passed away Sunday July 23, 2023. Cindy spent over 38
years working in the association management field. Her career began at Coastal Virginia Building
Industry (formerly the Tidewater Builders Association) for 17 years and then worked at Organization
Management Group for 20 years. She enjoyed her many services which included administrative work,
event planning, educational events, golf tournaments and much more. When her children attended high
school they belonged to the marching band, IRHS Braves! She spent over 12 years volunteering her time
as a member of the Indian River HS Band Boosters Association. A proud and devoted mother and
grandmother “NeNe,” she was so proud of her family and especially loved taking care of her
grandchildren. When time allowed she would do yard work, sew, read and watch great movies.
Her family would like to give tremendous thanks to Dr. Andrew D. Galbreath,D.O. and his wonderful Care
Team at Sentara Neurology Specialists in Virginia Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank H. Brown and Lois J. Brown. Survived by her husband of
50 years Robert M. Matthews, son Robert Matthews Jr. (Melanie), daughters Lauren Matthews Drew
(Allan) and Amy G. Rogers (Becky). Grandchildren, Christopher Matthews, Macy Matthews, Jacob
Gallahan and Joshua Drew, step granddaughter, Tara Drew, Brothers Frank H. Brown (Laurel), Steve
Brown (Kathy) and David Brown.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 10am at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd. Chesapeake. The family is inviting friends to continue fellowship in the Reception Hall following the ceremony.
