Obituary for CW3 William L. Doyle, Jr., USA, Ret.

CW3 William (Bill) L. Doyle Jr., USA, Ret. passed away March 17, 2021, at the age of 75. Bill was born in Orange County, California, to the late William Leander Doyle Sr. and Mrs. Alma Augusta O'Byrne Doyle. He served his country in the United States Army and retired after 22 years of honorable service. Bill was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade and attached to the 101st Air Mobile. He saw action, was twice wounded by enemy fire, and subsequently awarded the Purple Heart. Later in his career, he served in The Old Guard at Fort Meyers, Washington, DC, Arlington National Cemetery, as a Drill Instructor at Fort Dix, NJ, and as an instructor at the Northern Warfare Training Center in Fort Greely, AK. At age 39, Bill attended helicopter flight school at Fort Rucker, AL, with classmates half his age, graduated top of his class, and finished up his career as a UH-1H (Huey) helicopter pilot in command at Fort Drum, NY. Following his retirement from his distinguished army career, Bill worked as a schoolteacher at Rock Church Academy in Petersburg, VA, and finally as a computer technician with Chesterfield County Public Schools where he retired after 10 years. Bill was a faithful member of Harvest Assembly of God in Chesapeake, VA, where he served on the security team.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela Jean Doyle of 55 years; daughters Leah and Cecilia, and sons Ty, Sean, and Mark. He has nine grandchildren: Zachary, Ryan, Ethan, Meghan, William Luke, Matas, Charlotte, Ashlyn, and Cameron.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake. A celebration of life service will be held on March 26, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Harvest Assembly of God, 525 Kempsville Rd., Chesapeake with Pastor Brad Shedd officiating.
