Obituary for Christine Miller Evans

Christine Elizabeth Miller Evans, age 97, went to be with the Lord on February 9, 2023. Hers was truly a Blessed life well lived. Christine was born on August 31, 1925 in Bertie County, North Carolina. She had three brothers, Donald, Everett, and Telford, and two sisters, Elsie White and Ethlyn Britt. Christine was the one surviving of six children born to her parents, Jeremiah (Jerry) M. and Susie Frances Perry Miller, of Perry Town, N.C.

Christine met her husband at Capeharts Baptist Church and married her sweetheart, Roland Earl Evans on August 8, 1943, and shared 67 years together until Roland's death in 2010. They raised three children together in Chesapeake, Virginia. The legacy of their love included two sons, Jerry and David and one daughter, Joan Bunch and grew to include one son-in-law, Robert (Bob) Bunch; four grandchildren, Amy Broomer (John), Ryan Bunch (Sarah), Jeremy Evans, and Jennifer Davis (Ty); six great-grandchildren, Haydn, Jacob, Kaia, Kaleb, Ariana "Arie", and Temperance "Tempi".

Christine, often called Chris, by friends and family counted many close friends as part of her family and were close to her heart. One niece, Jane Knight, of Charlotte, N.C., was especially close to the family and like a second daughter and was a support for the family in her final days. Christine was a stay at home Mom and helped with the grandchildren as their Nana. She was a devoted Christian who lived out her faith, serving at Raleigh Heights Baptist Church in the nursery, tending the flowers, and singing in the senior choir. She loved cooking for her family, taking care of her flower gardens and enjoyed word search puzzles, chinese checkers, taking walks with her walker, and keeping up with her neighbors.

Grateful appreciation is extended to Chesapeake Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Unit 3 and Chesapeake Regional Hospital, 2 South, for their compassionate care.

A time of visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Family and friends will gather at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake for a graveside service on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to Raleigh Heights Baptist Church at 1000 Crowell Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23324.
