One Stallings family living on Byrd Avenue at the time was that of her uncle, Shorty Stallings. Shorty was well known in South Norfolk as the owner and operator of Triangle Billiards; and, for his generosity to people and organizations in need. She was a member of the of the Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church in South Norfolk
Anne attended South Norfolk public schools and was Valedictorian at Oscar Smith High School in 1958. After completing high school, she attended the Norfolk Campus of the College of William and Mary which transitioned into Old Dominion College in 1962 and later into Old Dominion University (ODU). She was the Senior Class President at ODU, graduating in 1962. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
After graduation, she embarked on a lifelong teaching career. She began her teaching career at Norfolk's Maury High School. She transferred from Maury to the then brand-new Lake Taylor High School in 1967. She progressed from teaching business and accounting to heading the business department. She continued teaching at Lake Taylor until her retirement in 1999. Anne enthusiastically and wholeheartedly prepared her students to succeed in life. She was a mentor and friend to innumerable teachers and staff members at Maury and Lake Taylor.
Survivors include her cousins Mrs. Kay Stallings Alvis of Chesapeake, Mrs. Mary Anne Stallings Arrington of Charlottesville, Shea Alvis of Chesapeake, Keaton Alvis of Chesapeake, Virginia Shipley of Virginia Beach, and Jeffrey Dozier of King George County. Her cousins remember her most vividly for her energy, smile, and sense of humor. They recall her good cheer and infectious happiness at many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with extended family. Although small in stature, her family admired her ability to eat prodigious amounts of food at holiday dinners. Only her Uncle Clark could keep up with her.
